Welcome to Georgetown HSC

In 2010, over 50 non-profit and government agencies came together to discuss how to improve delivery of human services in Georgetown County.  Their goal was lofty - these agencies wanted to organize in a collaborative way that would truly transform clients' lives from dependence on "the system" to self-sufficiency.  These initial discussions and meetings led to the formation of the Human Services Collaborative (HSC).

From the beginning, active members experienced "quick wins" from the new level of collaboration.  Members have particularly valued:

    • Being "in the know" about new and existing resources available in the community
    • Better coordination of existing services to avoid duplication and increase efficiency
    • Improved ability to respond to urgent client needs
    • Feedback and guidance about services and activities through a newly-created Community Advisory Board providing the "voice of the client"

Currently, the HSC has focused efforts in three primary areas:  Education, Housing and Communication.

    • Education Committee

- Identify education needs of clients
- Centralize services to eliminate duplication and increase efficiency
- Introduced "Cooking Matters" pilot class in August, 2012

    • Housing Committee

- Working on transitional housing and advocacy
- Addressing increase in utility deposits in city and occupancy codes in Georgetown County
- Implementing wrap-around services for newly released inmates

    • Communciation Committee

- Increasing collaborative membership and engage/retrain current members
- Informing donors and other supporters of the accomplishments of the collaborative
- Responsible for creating and maintaining website and other communication media

Several tools have been implemented to make collaboration easier.  Members are using Benefit Bank, Survey Monkey, Google Cloud, Charity Tracker and others to improve their ability to work together seemlessly.

We would love for your agency to join us.  Use the Contact Us page or see the Calendar of Events for our next meeting.  We look forward to working with you.
